Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling

2025 May 10

We are so proud to see our first Breaking The Bamboo Ceiling workshop come to life — and to witness such strong engagement and enthusiasm from all participants.

We began by grounding ourselves in evidence, with Xinyao Huang presenting the findings of our recent survey on the Bamboo Ceiling phenomenon in workplaces.

This was followed by small group discussions and interactive scenario exercises, where participants reflected on their own experiences and explored how unconscious bias, cultural norms, and systemic structures influence career progression.

Eliza W. then wrapped up the session with a wealth of practical strategies — offering guidance on how to navigate these invisible barriers both at the individual and organisational level. Her advice was both empowering and realistic.

As organisers, we were heartened by the active participation, thoughtful reflections, and positive energy throughout the session. The feedback has been overwhelmingly encouraging — a clear sign that this conversation resonates deeply, and that more spaces like this are needed.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us today for sharing your unique perspectives and helping make this event such a success. We are also deeply grateful for our sponsor Rosa, the UK Fund for Women and Girls for making this event possible.
